Japanese Audiophiles Are Going to Extremes

Japanese audiophiles are spending thousands of dollars on high-end stereo systems. Some are even installing private utility poles for a personal source of electricity, all in a quest for aural perfection. Photo: Juro Osawa/The Wall Street Journal

  1. Yes extreme, but obsessed audiophile, yes indeed.
    Thats a very depraved story.
He can’t have a women living like that…..or can’t keep one.

  2. I don’t understand why the first guys speakers are soffit mounted, except with severe edge diffraction from being recessed into the wall. Anyone know?

  3. he should have just plugged Car battery charger in the wall and connect the battery to a Inverter.
    pure DC.
while one battery is supplying electricity, the other one is being charged. ez

  4. These guys consider themselves to be "audiophiles". The eldest here, at 82, can probably not even hear frequencies above 7 kHz. "Audiophile"???

  5. ignorance is bliss. True, sharing a secondary on a pole transformer might put noise in your power, but just getting your own transformer on that pole should be enough. No need for a new pole!!

  6. im searching for a video where a japanese guy gets two huge blue speakers delivered to his house. does anyone remeber that?

  7. I really do not think that the 82 old dude, still hears as well as he was young. It is a waste of time and money. If you want to be an audiiphile, first do an audiogram (ear check) to see how well you can hear. Otherwise it is spending the money in thin air.

  8. So do non-Japanese audiophiles go to extremes. It’s the nature of folks passionately devoted to a hobby to spend ridiculous money and time on it. Some will spend multiple thousands of dollars for small or questionable improvements feeling that they’ll notice the differences over time. It’s true we do tend to notice small differences over long term listening than we do on brief exposure.

  9. takeo morida, the retured attorney, has the will and the budget to experience these things for himself. very cool. the mans on a journey, and hes a helluva navigator to boot.

  10. Electricity is the blood of your system. Notice the absence of a digital front end. Vinyl still hasn’t been topped!
